VALKYRIE'S CRY Reviews

February 13, 2006
  • Valkyrie’s Cry is a new power metal act from Toronto, Canada.
The band was formed by Lord Godin (Guitars), Dip Evil (Vocals) and Darryl (Bass). A guy called Speed King plays the drums, but I think he is just hired help. Musically Valkyrie’s Cry is somewhere between NWOBHM, Agent Steel and Omen.
The trademark of Valkyrie’s Cry is the voice of Dip Evil, great old school high-pitched vocals. All five tracks are very good examples of how many US and Canadian bands sounded like in the late eighties, early nineties, and I think it’s great that new bands still want to play this kind of music.
The production isn’t the best in the world, but after all this is only a demo. If you miss the old days with bands such as Agent Steel, Omen, Exciter, Overkill etc. then you have to check “Black Knight” out.
An mp3 sample of the track “Call of the Naiads” can be downloaded from Valkyrie’s Cry's home page. Enjoy.
Recommended tracks: “Blessed by the Mace” & “Call of the Naiads”

  • Toronto-based metallers Valkyrie's Cry have inked a management deal for Europe with the Dragonight Agency. The band will release a special version of their debut five-song demo, "Black Knight", with brand new cover artwork.
Valkyrie's Cry have been described by Dragonight's staff as the "ancient heavy metal heroes"
because of their die-hard attitude and a style comparable to the legendary acts such as Omen, Agent Steel and Savage Grace.

COMMENT 1: Hm, I gotta check this out. Sounds interesting.

COMMENT 2: I totally don't like the female butch on their demo, however. And I'm a Manowar fan. =)

COMMENT 3: Totally fast powermetal, fast drumming fast guitaring the music is wicked close to agent
steel, faster than manowar some of the songs get crazy like bodom styles.
but the cover needs a little help the chick looks like a guy

COMMENT 4:Man these guys plays metal the way it should be. I hope some good record company
notices them soon.Valkyrie's Cry Rules.Keep up with your good work boys.
Keep it real and heavy \m/

  • Canadian Assault!!! “They to are the Brutal Medieval violent answer to nu-metal”, here, with this declamatory declaration, that it has the taste of the pure provocazione, than introduces to we the Valkyrie's coming from Cry new comers band from the far Canadian chain plates, joints with this “Black Kight” to the fatidical one solglia of the debut on optical floppy disk, hardly some month from its birth, a promo cd that, from that can easy be evincere from listens to of these five included traces ive, it has the pretension to introduce one to us young formation agguerritissima under all comprised musical the artistic points of view and. Attitude and determination, which seem here to be the apetti that risaltano maggiormaente to a first one and fugace I listen of this debut demo, that same determination that has induced the band in issue to adopt drastic decisions in merit to removing forced of two of the old members of the combo that they were not online with ikl thought of the rest of the band that has preferit to ocntinuare just the musical speech like trio rather than to come down to squallidi compromises. Barbaric true heavy metal, this the kind carried ahead with sagacia from ours, one proposed musical that ago of the sonorous onslaught perpetrated with a violent cinicità one of its arms princiapli, nonthat main virtue, however the job of artwork of the cover did not leave to catch a glimpse nient'altro, therefore you put from part easy melodiche concessions and manierismi orchestrate them of risen, and are ready make you to submerge from tonnelate of watts and discharge to drenalinica, also because Valkyrie's Cry does not make progionieri, destroying and razing to the ground all which are placed from obstacle during just the fixed way made of stilettate metallic, gorgheggi canori to the limit of the human conception, the all flavored one from coupled low/a battery in a position to continuously supplying the just ritmico contribution that, most times, seems indeed impenetrable at times. Muscalmente speaking, the comparisons that can be made find elements distinguished in proposed how much in passed to you from band like the great cerimonieri Cirith Ungol, for load shattering with some they compositions, the first old Manowar, for qul that it regards the lyric and mental attitude, and the Bathory of the debuts for the thematic mitologiche to which ours make reference many times over five single brani for eighteen minutes of pure serious ecstasy, say it long on the distrutctive force of sure architecture heavy metal, played most times on atmospheres to the purer and oltranzista limit of the speed, not that on the enormous determination of a band, that it wants to go endured to the hard one without to spool from musical speeches without sense, and also under this light that go read brani of the bore of title track “the Black Knight” typical characterized example of epic metal in your face from “riff like to kick in the ball”, or of melodica, if one may use the expression, “Blassed by the mace” that with its sterentoria power it is in a position to annihilating also the metalhead more fearless. Concluding me it does not remain to remember that if the epic metal to level underground is a kind that still enjoys good health and a large one richaimo of old afecinados, great part of the merit goes ascribed also to band like the Valkyrie's Cry that, fregandosene highly of the mode and the imperanti styles, proudly continues to hold high the vessillo of the good music made from gets passionate you for gets passionate to it to you. It did not compromise, this is Valkyrie's Cry, follow the epic call or you must die…

  • Life can be strange sometimes, throwing things at you at the most unexpected of times. Take this disc for example. I snagged a copy of this demo just by standing in line at a Stratovarius concert. I’m glad I did because I love to discover new, local bands, especially promising ones.
As it happens, Valkyrie’s Cry are a Toronto band, playing a aggressive brand of power metal/traditional metal, more akin to say, Manowar, than Dragonforce. Featuring five original songs, this self-titled demo is the group’s first recording. As such, certain issues are expected, and they do rear their ugly heads from time to time. Off key, unrestrained vocals, the occasional sloppy note, and weak production are all evident on VALKYRIE’S CRY, but what the band lacks in technical aptitude, they more than make up for with pure heavy metal energy.
Opening with the pounding “Black Knight”, the band quickly show that they are on the right path – catchy riffs and impassioned vocals lead the charge and are quickly followed by some excellent soloing. The next two songs, “Valkyrie’s Cry” and “Blessed By The Mace” follow the same formula to great success, though Evil Dip’s vocals are a little too over the top on the latter. “Call of the Naiads” carries on the speed, slowing down for a brief chugging respite in the middle, before taking off again. Finally, “Headless Horsemen” displays some actual dynamics with an extended quiet dirge opening, before once again going hyper-speed to finish up.
Overall, though Valkyrie’s Cry needs to put in some work to tighten up their presentation and playing, this is a very good first step for the band. VALKYRIE’S CRY is entertaining throughout and the band definitely carries the true metal spirit.
